7:00pm  - 8:00pm: Speaker Presentation:  The Impact of Racisim on Student Success in Academic Settings

1 CEU in Ethics

Presenter: Shereen Naser, Ph.D., will speak on racisim as a significant social determinant of child health from the womb through adolescence.  Schools are tasked with supporting youth academic success without naming some of the most significant barriers keeping students from thriving in the classroom.  In this presentation we will explore the impact of one of these unnamed barriers-racism]- on student academic success and the role psychology can play in interrupting it.

Dr. Naser received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas, Austin and her graduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans.  Dr. Naser's main research interests include helping to build school capacity to address the varying needs of students struggling behaviorally and emotionally.  She is also interested in building these systems in a way that supports ethnically, racially and linguistically diverse students and families both in the U.S. and abroad.  Dr. Naser's work is done through a child-rights lens, where children are considered important participants in the school and community deciaion making processes.

1 CEU credit in ethics will be provided from the OPA-MCE.  The Cleveland Psychological Association, Inc. is approved by the Ohio Psychological Association, Inc., #06P0-341377843, maintains responsibility for the program.
